ELECTRODESSICATION TREATMENT
in Vienna, VA

Skin Biopsy

WHAT IS ELECTRODESSICATION?

Electrodessication is a minimally invasive dermatological procedure that uses a high-frequency electrical current to treat and remove unwanted benign skin growths such as:

  • Skin tags

  • Seborrheic keratosis

  • Cherry angiomas

  • Actinic keratosis

  • Milia & other small lesions

How Does Electrodessication Work?

  1. A fine-tipped electrode delivers a controlled electrical current to the targeted skin lesion.

  2. The heat dehydrates and destroys the abnormal tissue while sealing blood vessels to minimize bleeding.

  3. The treated area forms a small scab, which heals naturally over a few days to weeks, leaving clearer skin.

What exactly is happening?

The procedure dehydrates and destroys unwanted tissue, allowing for natural healing. â€‹

What is it painful?

Most patients experience minimal discomfort.

How long does treatment take? â€‹â€‹

Electrodessication is a quick procedure, typically taking 5-15 minutes depending on the number and size of the lesions being treated.

What is the downtime? â€‹â€‹

No significant downtime! Most patients resume normal activities immediately. However, the treated area may have redness or mild swelling (resolves within hours to days) and scabbing (typically lasts 7-14 days before naturally falling off.)

How do I care for my skin post treatment? â€‹

Keep the area clean and dry.

Avoid picking or scratching the scab.

Apply an antibiotic ointment

Use sunscreen (SPF 30+) to prevent hyperpigmentation.

When will I see results?

Results are visible once the scab falls off and the skin heals, usually within 1-3 weeks. Some larger lesions may take longer to fully fade.

Are there any side effects? â€‹

Side effects are minimal and temporary, but may include:

  • Mild redness or swelling

  • Temporary scabbing or crusting

  • Slight skin discoloration (rare, usually fades over time)

How many sessions do I need?

Most lesions require just one session, but larger or more stubborn growths may need multiple treatments for complete removal.

Is if safe for all skin types?

Yes! However, individuals with darker skin tones may have a slight risk of temporary hyperpigmentation.

How much does it cost?

Costs vary depending on the size, number, and type of lesions being treated. Prices typically range from $50 to $500 per session, depending on desired treatment area.

Who should avoid?

Electrodessication may not be suitable for individuals who have pacemakers or certain medical implants, are prone to keloid scarring, have active infections or open wounds in the treatment area.e treatment area
